The region of the Speyside is part of the Highlands and often named as ‘heart od the Scottish whisky production’.
The region has the highest density of distilleries, there are thirty distilleries in a circuit of twenty kilometers. It is named after the same-named river Spey, which is one of the most famous salmon rivers in the world. In the centre of this region the village Dufftown is located, having 3.000 inhabitants and being called the ‘whisky capital of the world’. The sentence ‘Rome was built on seven hills – Dufftown stands on seven stills’ was only valid until distillery number eighth was founded.
