Right on the River Spey in Easter Elchies near Craigellachie, Alexander Reid was one of the first to receive a license to distill whisky in 1824. There are now 21 stills working with the water from the Ringorm Burn source. Until the introduction of the “Fine Oak” series, a lot of Oloroso barrels were used, which are still filled at most twice. Macallan is part of the Edrington Group.
