Allt-á-Bhainne

The distillery was built in 1975 by Chivas Brothers and experienced a real back and forth in its life story. Enlarged to double its size in 1989, it was sold to Pernod Ricard in December 2001 and closed down in October 2022. Production resumed on 27 May 2005. The distillery is located in Speyside on the southern side of Ben Rinnes and southwest of Dufftown. It has 2 stills, but is still designed for large capacities of up to 5 million litres of alcohol per year, producing, it is assumed, just under 4 million litres. The first official bottling of the distillery has only been available since 2018. The vast majority flows into the brands of Pernod Ricard (= Chivas Regal). Allt-a-Bhainne was one of the first Speyside distilleries to produce whisky with lightly peated barley, which was extremely untypical in Speyside at the time of its foundation.
