Aberfeldy
The Aberfeldy distillery was founded in 1896 by the whisky merchants John Dewar & Sons and has been part of the Bacardi empire since 1998. It is located on the River Tay on the outskirts of the village of the same name and belongs to the Southern Highlands region. The water for production comes from the Pitilie Burn spring. The malt from Aberfeldy has always been used for the Dewars blends, especially the White Label. The distillery, with its 2 wash & spirit stills, is able to produce a volume of about 2,700,000 litres of pure alcohol annually.
The basic style of the distillery can be characterised as soft, round with an accompanying sweetness. Former American bourbon barrels are predominantly used. Also, the upward rising Lyne arms of the still help to filter out sharper and more intense flavours during distillation. Original bottled Aberfeldys usually appear on the market cold-filtered and coloured.
