The distillery is located near the A9 at the Fort William junction in the heart of the Scottish Highlands and was founded in 1897 as “Strathspey”. For a long time it served as a meeting point for smugglers and was of great importance for drovers on their way from the Highlands to the south. With a location of almost 330m, it is one of the highest distilleries in Scotland, is often snowed in in winter and serves as a meteorological station all year round.
