The distillery, whose name means “the big reef”, is located directly on the shores of Loch Indaal in the center of the island of Islay. Founded in 1779, it is one of the oldest in Scotland. Bowmore has been owned by the Japanese Suntory Group since 1994. The water comes from the River Laggan.
