A malt whisky is usually named after the distillery where it is made. Not so with the AnCnoc – it comes from the distillery Knockdhu (which was also the name of the whisky before), which means “black hill”. It was “renamed” by the owners in 1993, probably to avoid confusion with the Knockando. The distillery was built in 1877 and is now owned by Inver House Distillers.
