Peated Highland Single Malt 18 Year Old Thompson Bros – 45.7%

The Thompson brothers from Dornoch are renowned in the industry for their keen eye for exceptional casks. For this limited edition, they selected a peated single malt from an undisclosed Highland distillery. The spirit spent 18 years maturing in Oloroso hogsheads sourced directly from Jerez. This maturation in the slightly smaller hogsheads facilitated an intense interaction between the wood and the smoky spirit, resulting in a complex character that has been bottled at natural color and without chill-filtration.

In the glass, the whisky presents a deep, inviting mahogany hue that hints at the intensity of the sherry influence. On the nose, a bouquet of dried dates, raisins, and candied orange peel unfolds, subtly underscored by dark chocolate and a pinch of cinnamon. The palate reveals a full-bodied structure: a harmonious balance of honey-sweet dried fruits and earthy smoke, accompanied by spicy oak and roasted hazelnuts. The finish is long-lasting, leaving behind nutty sherry notes and delicate orange zest.
