The Glenlivet was the first legal distillery to be founded under the “Art of Excise” in 1824 by George Smith with an official government license. It is located in Minmore near Ballindalloch in Speyside. The distillery has been at its current location since 1858, and in 1880, it successfully fought for the right to use “The” as a prefix to its name in court. The current owner is Pernod Ricard.

Distilled on May 30, 2006, at the historic Glenlivet Distillery, this single malt spent a full 20 years in a first-fill Oloroso sherry hogshead. The independent bottler Signatory Vintage selected the distinctive Ibisco decanter for this single cask, numbered 900624, which impressively showcases the whiskey’s deep, dark, natural amber color. Bottled unfiltered in July 2026 at a remarkable cask strength of 63.5% ABV, this edition was released in a limited run of just 289 bottles.
On the nose, an intense interplay of raisins, dates, and creamy honey unfolds, underscored by a delicate caramel sweetness. On the palate, the whiskey is full-bodied and powerful; here, notes of dark chocolate meet ripe plum compote and the distinctive spiciness of oak. The finish lingers for a long time and concludes with nuances of dry cocoa and walnuts, which create a harmonious balance with the fruity depth.
