The distillery, whose name means “mountain slope” or “garden on a slope,” is located a few miles north of Dunrobin Castle near the village of Brora and is thus part of the Northern Highlands region. It was built in 1967 right next to another distillery, which was subsequently renamed Brora after both distilleries had temporarily operated under the same name. The water for Clynelish comes from the Clynemilton Burn.

Distilled in April 2013 at the legendary Clynelish Distillery in Sutherland, this single malt was aged for 13 years in a carefully selected first-fill bourbon hogshead. This bottling marks a special milestone, celebrating the 10th anniversary of Thompson Bros. as well as the 50th anniversary of Kirsch Import. Only 245 bottles were drawn from this single cask, underscoring the exclusivity of this Highland expression.
Shimmering in a warm amber hue, the whiskey reveals—even in its aroma—the waxy texture so prized by the distillery, underpinned by notes of ripe honey and delicate vanilla. On the palate, a complex blend of light stone fruits and lively citrus notes unfolds, precisely accentuated by the natural cask strength of 52.7% ABV. The finish is long-lasting and characterized by a subtle oakiness and a mineral dryness that hints at the distillate’s maritime origins.
