We have a pretty amicable friendship with the distillery Glenfarclas and especially with George Grant.
Glenfarclas means as much ‘valley of the green grassland’. It was built in 1836 by Robert Hay and bought by John Grant in 1865. Until today it still is owned by the family Grant. The family brings out standard bottlings as well as outstanding special bottlings with foresight and continuity. We had the great chance to choose several casks personally and do our own bottlings. Since 2006 George Grants visits in Itzehoe are one of our highlights we experienced. The mainly used Oloroso Sherry Casks give the whisky its character, that is pretty special and appreciated by whisky experts in the whole world.

The Trinity Vintage Series reflects the three key elements behind the complex and diverse aromas of the Glenfarclas distillery: the 100% maturation of the single malt whiskies in precious Oloroso sherry casks, the preserved traditional distillation methods of the direct-fired stills, and the aging of the single malt in the famous, cool dunnage warehouses.
After maturation in the precious sherry cask warehouses, the Glenfarclas “The Dunnage Warehouses Vintage 2014” was bottled at cask strength of 59.2% ABV. The single malt presents rich, warming spices as well as intensely pronounced sherry aromas that harmonize beautifully with the robust cask strength.
The traditional dunnage warehouses are characterized by thick stone walls, earthen floors, and low slate roofs, which allow for the maintenance of constant temperatures.
Here, only three casks are stacked on top of each other, which helps to keep the evaporation rate almost constant – a crucial factor in the high quality of Glenfarclas. Although traditional storage might be considered inefficient, as Chairman John L.S. Grant once remarked, it is an indispensable component of the high quality of a Glenfarclas single malt whisky.
