Clynelish 2013 Signatory 100 Proof #1 – 57,1%

The Clynelish Distillery is renowned amongst connoisseurs for its unique, almost oily character. This 12-year-old single malt, distilled in 2013, was matured in an intriguing combination of refill Oloroso sherry casks and virgin oak hogsheads. Whilst the sherry casks impart a subtle fruitiness, the new oak brings structure and depth to the spirit. Signatory Vintage bottled this whisky as part of its ‘100 Proof’ series at a robust 57.1% ABV – naturally unfiltered and in its natural colour to preserve its full aromatic complexity.

The bouquet opens with an inviting note of light citrus fruits such as lemon and orange, harmoniously complemented by sweet honey and vanilla. On the palate, the rare waxy note so characteristic of Clynelish unfolds, lending the whisky a full-bodied, almost creamy mouthfeel. Sweet malt meets a subtle nuttiness and mild spices, which gain complexity through maturation in ‘New Wood’. The finish is medium-length and elegant, with the waxy honeyed sweetness accompanied for a long time by a subtle oak spice.
