Yoichi, Nikka Whisky’s first distillery and the guardian of its tradition, is situated on the coast of Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost island.

The Yoichi Single Malt is produced using traditional methods such as direct charcoal firing, and its refined coastal and peaty notes perfectly capture the authentic character of its exceptional location.
A subtle blend of Yoichi casks of varying ages, a large proportion of which have been matured in ex-sherry casks, this perfect example of Nikka’s historic single malt embodies a delicate balance between smoky, fruity and floral aromas.

The founder of the Nikka Distillery, Masataka Teketsuru was born into a family, that was successfully producing Sake (rice wine) since 1733. His first employer sent him to Scotland to learn about the technique and distillation processes in the Whisky production.
Some years later he came back to Osaka and build Japans first Whisky Distillery – which made him the pioneer of the Japanese Whisky production. In 1934 he decided to go his own way and search for the right location for the perfect Japanese Whisky.
