The Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2014 contains barley from eight different farms on the island of Islay. 84% first-fill bourbon casks, 8% second-fill virgin oak casks and 8% second-fill Bordeaux wine casks were used for maturation. This combination leads to notes of sweet fruit, toasted oak and citrus, as well as the typical lingering Port Charlotte smoke that pervades everything. The Islay Barley was bottled at 50% as usual.

The distillery Port Charlotte was founded in 1829 by Colin Campbell. After having many different owners it was shut down in 1929. The warehouses still exist and are also used. The distillery used to have the name Lochindaal or Loch Indaal as well. There are produced and bottled whiskys in Bruichladdich unwder the name ‘Port Charlotte’. The announced reopening by Bruichladdich has not been realized until today.
