The 8 year old Kurayoshi is mostly made in Japan, although a small part of the whisky used also comes from Scotland.

The whisky is allowed to mature in classic oak casks before it is diluted to drinking strength with the mild spring water. The taste is typically Japanese, sweet and soft in taste, with a malty aroma.

The Matsui Whisky Kurayoshi Distillery, based in the city of Kurayoshi on the shores of the Sea of Japan, in the Tottori Prefecture in the south of the Japanese main island of Honshu, has been active since it was founded in 1910. Their production quantities of pure malt whisky or blended malt whiskey from Scottish and in-house malt whiskys for the Kurayoshi brand are said to be low. A particular focus is on the water used, which rises at the foot of the nearby Mount Daisen.
