Glenmorangie started producing in 1843 in an reconstructed brewery. In 1887 the distillery was completely new constructed. It is located in the northern Highlands in Tain. Stories tell that its whisky has never been sold for making blends. There used to be an old rule that claimed that there should always be sixteen men in the distillery making the whisky. This is why the distillery is also known under the name ‘ The sixteen men of Tain’. Glenmorangie even has own forests where it gets its wood for the casks from. Therefore it has a big impact on the development of using different wood and cask types during making whisky. Today the distillery is owned by Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy.

GLENMORANGIE HIGHLAND SINGLE MALT SCOTCH WHISKY CASK No. 0009
A Tropical and Toasty Whisky
UNIQUE CASK HISTORY
Cask No. 0009 captivated Dr Bill Lumsden as it matured in the cool, calm surroundings of Warehouse 32. This rare cask gives Glenmorangie a toasty and tropical twist.
The spirit was distilled on Tuesday 6th July 1999, under the watchful eye of Graham Eunson, then Glenmorangie’s experienced Distillery Manager. Then it was laid down in a secret selection of casks, known only to Dr Bill and his trusted team. Some 17 years later, Dr Bill was delighted by the whisky’s singular character. And inspired to enhance it still further, he transferred the whisky into a first-fill American oak bourbon cask which would highlight Glenmorangie’s classic notes. Finished in this way for a further four years, Cask No. 0009 reveals a unique complexity, layering Glenmorangie’s hallmark creamy, fruity taste with spice and tropical sweetness.
DR BILL’S PERSONAL TASTING NOTES
COLOUR: Gold.
AROMA: Sweet and fruity, with mandarin orange, peach and nectarine. Rum and-raisin ice-cream soon emerges alongside sandalwood and cedar, laced with vanilla and crème caramel. A little water opens up notes of mango and lychee.
TASTE: First comes a burst of passion fruit and peach sprinkled with demerara sugar. Toasted caramel follows on with cinnamon and ginger. Finally crystallized ginger, toasted almond and orange unite in a gloriously long finish.
