The Kanosuke Distillery is located on Fukiagehama, one of Japan’s longest sandy beaches. In the southwestern part of the country, where the East China Sea meets Japan, the climatic conditions are ideal for whiskey: mild summers and wild, windy winters ensure rapid maturation of the distillates. Critics worldwide agree: even after a short time, the bottlings taste far more mature than their age would suggest. They are aged primarily in freshly charred American oak casks that were previously used to age the parent company’s acclaimed “Mellowed Kozuru” shochu.
In 2017, Kanosuke began operations with three unique pot stills: each differs in the shape of its neck and the angle of its lyne arm. Whether through redistillation in different stills or by blending distillates from the pot still trio, Kanosuke is capable (as proven time and again at competitions) of creating whiskies with great depth and an exceptionally smooth texture.
