The Finnish town of Lahti is not only the venue of the World Ski Championships, but also home to Finland’s first and largest whisky distillery: Teerenpeli. The soft, sweet, partly floral whiskies of the Finnish pioneers are so popular that Teerenpeli produces up to 100,000 litres of alcohol a year with its two Forsyths pot stills. An astonishing amount for the sparsely populated Scandinavian country, where the sale and advertising of alcoholic beverages are subject to numerous legal restrictions.

The production volumes are also based on Teerenpeli’s popularity outside Finland – for example in Germany. Fans of Finnish malt whiskies can now look forward to well-matured novelties. The Teerenpeli Vetehinen 10 y.o., matured in bourbon casks and refined in Amarone red wine casks, establishes the Amarone Cask Whisky Trilogy. The age increases with each of the soft, dark-fruited whiskies. Vetehinen is named after a figure from Finnish folklore.
