ElsBurn The Harz is distilled from 100 per cent regional barley. Maturing in first and second fill sherry hogsheads and a small proportion of first fill bourbon barrels, the single malt emphasises the distillery character – even more so than The Journey or the Distillery Edition.

At an ideal drinking strength of 46% vol., The Harz develops notes of apricot, red berries and tropical fruits with sultana, malt and spicy oak as well as creamy notes of vanilla, caramel and light chocolate.

In the Elsbachtal valley, nestled in the mountainous landscape of the southern Harz, lies the Hammerschmiede. Instead of iron ore, the Buchholz family processes a different regional raw material here: barley. Since 2002, the spirits manufactory has stood for Hercynian Single Malt. Now the sophisticated whisky from the heart of Germany has received a special honour: the award as “Category Winner” at this year’s World Whiskies Awards.
