Faro 2017 “Feingeist” – 42%

The Basthorst estate near Hamburg has existed since 1278. With its more than 30 buildings, it is now also home to several businesses – such as the Feingeisterei distillery. Martina and Fabian Rohrwasser have been producing their fine spirits in a red wooden house on the estate grounds since 2013. From fruit brandy to vodka, these benefit from the distiller couple’s strict quality standards: what is bottled here is 100 percent handcrafted and 100 percent natural.

In 2019, the family business laid the foundation stone for Faro, its own whisky distillery. Here, the Rohrwassers malt regional barley themselves in a hitherto unique facility and kiln-dry their malt partly over peat sods from northern Germany.

The 1000-litre, wood-fired copper still, which produces fine and full-bodied distillates, is also a special design. These mature in genuine one-offs: specially made barrique-sized barrels made of oak from Schleswig-Holstein. The result? The taste of the North.
