The Bunnahabhain distillery is located at the kyle of Islay at the edge of the island in the northeast and lays that isolated, that there had to be constructed a long and curvy street down to the sea as it was built in 1881.The water that is used has its origin in an underground spring from the river Margadale and therefore it comes from Islay it has a relatively low concentration of peat.
Until 2003 it was owned by an descendant of the founder, Highland Distillers. Nowadays it is owned by Burn Stewart Distillers.

The Bunnahabhain Abhainn Araig was bottled for the 2022 Islay Whiskey Festival. This whisky owes its name to the source of the same name, which serves as the basis for all whiskeys from the Bunnahabhain Distillery. The Abhainn Araig is composed of whiskys that matured in ex Pedro Ximenez sherry octave casks and whiskys that matured in ex Bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks.
