With the "Seasonal Releases", Lochlea reflects what happens on the farm with the changing of the seasons. The Ploughing Edition is the first peaty Lochlea bottling - and the first smoky whisky for John Campbell after Laphroaig.
The single malt was matured in a combination of ex-islay casks and peaty quarter casks. The result: a perfect dram for the cold season with flavours of sweets, baked fruits, nuts and lingering Islay peat.
The inspiration for the latest bottling in the annual series was the long winters on the farm where Scotland's national poet Robert Burns lived from 1777 to 1784. It is the season for ploughing the fields that Burns once farmed in preparation for spring sowing.
With its ice-blue label, Lochlea also reflects the frosty winters on the west coast of Ayrshire.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Baked fruit with light peat smoke in the background.
Palate: Sweets, cooked apple and Brazil nuts.
Finish: Lingering fruit and nuttiness, infused with a hint of Islay peat smoke.

Nose
That's exactly what it smells like on the premises of the Bruichladdich Distillery! That smooth, biscuit malt followed by peat smoke and lots of stone fruit (ripe apricots, peaches) and honey drizzled pears. Candied lemon and caramel, honeycomb, chocolate and vanilla ice cream.
Flavour
Oak wood and smoldering peat. Flowery aromas reminiscent of broom and honeysuckle mix with creamy porridge, sweet vanilla and toffee to create an extremely harmonious work of art.
Departure
Barley malt and earthy smoke dominate the aftertaste, followed by sweet caramel and fine vanilla.

Daftmill 2011/2023 is based on Publican barley, which was harvested by John and Sandy on 28 and 29 August 2009. Malted at Crisp Malt in Alloa in the summer of 2010, the farm distillery distilled its summer batch release. 27 first fill bourbon casks from Clermont Springs in Kentucky were filled from June to August 2011 and bottled in 6,550 bottles in September 2023.

Following on from the success of the first edition of the Kilchoman Fino Sherry Matured in 2020, the journey continued this year. For the 2023 Kilchoman Fino Sherry Cask Matured, a total of 20 Fino Sherry Butts were handpicked by Bodega Jose y Miguel Martin. With a combination of 20 sherry butts and a maturation period of at least five years, the malt develops a dry saltiness, with an influence of green, fresh fruits and the typical long-lasting, delicate Islay peat smoke. Maturation in ex-fino sherry casks gives the malt minerality, notes of oak and maple syrup, which combine beautifully with Kilchoman's natural citrus sweetness and maritime peat smoke.

Nose
Smoked vanilla, sweet caramel and toffee underscored by peat smoke, coconut and flaked almonds. The earthy smoke harmonises beautifully with the notes of citrus fruits, lemon meringue pie and juicy barbecue meat.
Flavour
Citrus, smoke and a distinct minerality on the palate, followed by charred oak. Toffee and creamy vanilla interwoven with earthy smoke and fruity notes of pear, gooseberry and green apple. Roasted coffee beans, a hint of clove and nutmeg and the subtle sweetness of heather honey.
Departure
Butterscotch and vanilla, Octomore's signature earthy peat smoke and salt spray, burnt heather and gorse blossoms.

This Ardmore 2008 was chosen during a dealer's trip to London. Together with a few colleagues, we decided on a few barrels from Berry Bro's. The whisky matured in a Madeira cask and is limited to 253 bottles. The Ardmore was bottled with a cask strength of 56.3%.
Our Tasting Notes
This Ardmore successfully combines a pleasant peat smoke note (which is rather gentle compared to peated Islay whiskeys due to the Highland peat used) with the sweetness of the Madeira cask in which it spent the second part of its maturing period. Cold campfire in the nose, then a lush sweetness on the palate that quickly alternates with pleasant oily-smoky notes.
