The Distillery: Back in Private Scottish Ownership Since 2017
Founded in 1967, The GlenAllachie Distillery was owned by a foreign corporation for many years. In 2017, The GlenAllachie Distillers Company purchased the Speyside distillery—along with the filled casks in the warehouse. Its new owners: longtime Scottish whiskey expert Billy Walker and his partners Trisha Savage and Graham Stevenson. The new team was introduced to the distillery’s unique features by long-time employees. Among these: The distillery has four stills and two separate spirit safes—allowing it to produce two different distillates simultaneously, such as peated and unpeated new make.
Until now, The GlenAllachie Distillery has produced almost exclusively for blended whiskies. Single malt, on the other hand, was extremely rare—available only through independent bottlers, for example. This changed in 2017 with the takeover by Billy Walker’s team. Age statements are important to The GlenAllachie for its single malts: The core range consists of 10-, 12-, 18-, and 25-year-old whiskies. In addition, regular single-cask and special releases are planned—and starting in 2018, even a smoky whisky.

Distilled at the Glenallachie distillery in September 2008, this Speyside single malt matured for over 17 years before being finished by independent bottler Duncan Taylor in June 2026. Its distinctive character stems from a final maturation period in a Pedro Ximénez Octave cask; the significantly smaller volume of these casks increases the contact area between wood and spirit, resulting in an exceptionally rich and intense flavor profile. With a strictly limited release of just 87 bottles and a bottling at a natural cask strength of 55.3% ABV, the authenticity of this craftsmanship is preserved.
Visually, the whisky impresses with a deep, dark amber hue, achieved entirely without the use of coloring or chill filtration. The bouquet opens with rich aromas of dark dried fruits, underpinned by sweet maltiness, honey, and a delicate pinch of cinnamon. On the palate, a concentrated syrupy note emerges, paired with the structure of spicy oak and vanilla. The finish is remarkably long and dry, characterized by nuances of coffee and licorice alongside elegant tannins.
