Like the classic Sanaig, the exclusive Kilchoman Sanaig matured mainly in Oloroso sherry casks, but was bottled at natural cask strength of 57.5 % Vol. Instead of adding water, this Sanaig was created at natural cask strength. The result is an intense combination of rich peat smoke, cinnamon sweetness and stewed stone fruit, spices and dark chocolate.

The Laphroaig 13 Years matured entirely in a port cask and was bottled at 54.6% vol. On the nose, pronounced peat smoke combines with maritime notes, strawberries and a rosé sparkling wine. On the palate, port fruit, salty spice and cocoa meet the powerful smoke. The finish is long, smoky and fruit-driven.

This 5-year-old whisky from the Laphroaig distillery matured for 5 years in a bourbon barrel. It was then bottled at 57.1% in a run of 315 bottles.

The Bunnahabhain Distillery is located on the Sound of Islay, in the northeastern corner of the island, directly across from the island of Jura—so remote that when it was built in 1881, a long, winding road first had to be constructed down to the sea. The water used to make whiskey—which is relatively low in peat for Islay—comes from an underground spring, the Margadale River. Until 2003, it was owned by the descendants of the founders, Highland Distillers. The current owner is Burn Stewart Distillers.

It was built in 1846 and, since 1974, has featured a completely rebuilt stillhouse that was expanded to include six stills. The distillery, which offers a wonderful view of the island of Jura, is now owned by Diageo. Caol Ila is a prime example of a “workhorse” distillery that primarily produces whisky for blends—in this case, for Johnnie Walker.
