Black Tot Master Blenders Reserve 2023 - 54,5%, Rum
Black Tot Master Blenders Reserve 2023 - 54,5%

As a sailor in the Royal Navy, you had a choice: either rum or the equivalent in cash – until 31 July 1970. On the so-called “Black Tot Day”, the last rum ration, the “tot”, was handed out. No reason for rum lovers to mourn: The Black Tot Rum brand of Elixir Distillers will celebrate the anniversary again in 2022 – albeit delayed due to external circumstances – with an exceptional bottling. The goal for the Black Tot Master Blender’s Reserve 2023: greater proximity to the original Navy Blend, with a more intense mouthfeel and rich notes of wood smoke, espresso and cocoa. For this, Chilton combined part of the Master Blender’s Reserve from the previous year, which as always consists partly of the original Navy Rum, with up to 31-year-old (Wooden) Pot and Column Still Rums from five different countries: Guyana (31.5%), Barbados (18.3%), Jamaica (9%), Trinidad (19%) and Grenada (2.7%) .

Black Tot Master Blenders Reserve 2025 - 54,5%, Rum
Black Tot Master Blenders Reserve 2025 - 54,5%

Since 2021, the premium brand Black Tot from Elixir Distillers has celebrated the end of a legendary era: Black Tot Day. In honour of the former rum rations in the British Navy, which were issued for the last time on 31 July 1970, Master Blender Oliver Chilton creates an exquisite Master Blender’s Reserve every year. The Master Blender’s Reserve 2025 picks up the characteristic flavours of the 50th Anniversary Edition, resulting in a bolder, more traditional style of rum. Rum from Guyana provides rich notes of liquorice and dark chocolate, balanced by overripe banana notes from the Jamaican component. A marriage of older rums up to 18 years old and younger rums from Barbados adds further complexity with grapefruit and buttery notes. A rare cask from the closed Caroni distillery in Trinidad, last year's Master Blender’s Reserve and a touch of the original Royal Navy blend, which has been continuously blended since the early 19th century, complete this dense and robust rum.

Black Tot Rum - 46,2%
Black Tot Rum - 46,2%

Black Tot Rum Barbados, Guyana & Jamaica Molasses rum Matured in American oak, ex-bourbon barrels 46.2% vol. Not colored Not chilled / sweetened Tasting Notes: In the nose, the copper-colored rum immediately invites you on a tropical journey: pineapple, melon and a feast of Caribbean sweetness. Deep-fried banana with ginger and cinnamon, Jamaican plantain tards, overripe mango, creme brulee and candied lemon slices rise with honeysuckle blossom and eucalyptus. The palate is much drier than the nose suggests, with orange peel and tannins from the oak barrels. The syrupy texture is intertwined with aromas of intense espresso, but then produces sweet ginger cakes, clove, black pepper and warm cardamom rolls. There is also a hint of baked bananas, licorice, burnt caramel, juicy honeydew melon, nectarines, pimento berries and coconut. The finish is long-lasting and rounded off with more tropical fruits, completed by chilli jam, masala chai and vanilla.
