About us

The origins of Flickenschild go back to the beginning of the last century.

On 18 October 1905, Johann Flickenschild and his son Ernst founded a cigar-making business in Itzehoe, the district town in Schleswig-Holstein north of Hamburg. It grew into the retail business Ernst Flickenschild, which for many decades centred on cigars, tobacco products of all kinds and the matching accessories.

About 30 years ago our passion for whisky began, and today it is an essential part of our range. You will currently find more than 1,500 different bottlings with us, with Scottish single malt whisky at the heart of it. Regular whisky evenings, tastings and fair appearances on the “water of life” round off what we offer.

2018 brought a big change. As of 1 October 2018, the sole proprietorship Ernst Flickenschild became Flickenschild GmbH & Co. KG. The previous owner Manfred Kröger and his son Jannik Kröger have since run the company as managing directors, in the fifth and sixth generation as direct descendants of the founders. The shop also moved within Itzehoe’s town centre: after more than 70 years at Berliner Platz 2a, it moved to Breite Straße 13–17, where the grown range can now be presented on a generous 180 square metres.

Further spirits specialities, especially gin, rum, grappa, vodka and liqueurs, as well as selected delicacies make our shop a place for people who appreciate culinary enjoyment and look for something special. Our friendly and knowledgeable team will gladly help you choose in the shop.

We remain connected to tobacco as well: a walk-in cigar humidor with a Davidoff depot and Habanos Point, plus a large selection of pipes, lighters and other accessories, leaves little to be desired for tobacco lovers. As a local supplier in the town centre, our shop also offers newspapers and magazines, a DHL parcel shop and a lottery counter.

For about 25 years we have also offered part of our range online, and the same applies here as in the shop:
