Black Tot Rum Barbados, Guyana & Jamaica Molasses rum Matured in American oak, ex-bourbon barrels 46,2 % vol. No added colouring Non-chill-filtered, unsweetened Tasting Notes: On the nose, this copper-coloured rum immediately invites you on a tropical journey: pineapple, melon and a feast of Caribbean sweetness. Fried banana with ginger and cinnamon, Jamaican plantain tarts, overripe mango, crème brûlée and candied lemon slices rise up alongside honeysuckle blossom and eucalyptus. The palate is noticeably drier than the nose suggests, with orange peel and tannins from the oak casks. The syrupy texture is intertwined with flavours of intense espresso, then brings out sweet ginger cake, clove, black pepper and warm cardamom buns. Hints of baked banana, liquorice, burnt caramel, juicy honeydew melon, nectarines, pimento berries and coconut also come through. The finish is long and rounded with more tropical fruit, completed by chilli marmalade, masala chai and vanilla.

The Companero Extra Anejo is a rum from Panama matured for up to 12 years in the so-called solera process. For the first time, refilled bourbon barrels made of American white oak are used for the maturation. The aroma of fresh fruits, honey & caramel, milk chocolate, spices and oranges are very perceptible despite the 54% vol.

Companero is Spanish and stands for buddy or comrade. Rums from Panama are primarily used for the bottlings of Companero rums, but rums from Jamaica or Trinidad are also used to complement them. The sugar cane used for the molasses of the Companero rums is always harvested by hand. Oak wood waters are primarily used for maturation purposes.

Since 2022, a truly unique spirit has been produced on the ‘Queen of the Hebrides’: Islay Rum. Inspired by traditional Caribbean distillation methods, the Islay Rum Company – the island’s first and, to date, only rum distillery – produces rum varieties rich in esters using a pot still and twin retort still, adopting an experimental approach, working by hand and in small batches. Between Kilnaughton Bay in Port Ellen and Borraichill Hill stands a pot and twin retort still that is unique in the UK. Developed by Head Distiller Ben Inglis, it produces Islay Rum – a smooth, ester-rich spirit that is effectively triple-distilled in a single distillation run. The base for this is molasses and aromatic residues from the previous distillation – essentially ‘Islay dunder’.

Geal is a full-bodied pure single rum that presents the house style in its unadulterated form: unaged, rich in esters and fruit-forward, like its role models from Haiti, Jamaica and the French Antilles.
