Francis Darroze and his son Marc roam the Gascony countryside as treasure hunters. The search objects? Special Armagnacs. About forty wineries from the heart of Bas-Armagnac contribute to the exceptional collection of the Darroze house. The independent bottlers buy their distillates either using a mobile distiller, which traditionally makes its rounds after the harvest, or already in barrel storage. In the in-house cellars, these often rare, several generations old casks or brandies are perfected by small producers.

This 18-year-old brandy rarity was distilled from 100 per cent Baco grapes. They were grown by Robert Duporté from the cult commune of Le Frêche. The region stands for very voluminous, profound Armagnacs that remind rum fans of Demerara. Our Domaine Duporté unfolds powerful wood and roasted notes, intense fruit aromas of quince and fig, as well as almond and pepper tones at a natural cask strength of 47.5% vol.

The Armagnac Ténarèze - Lous Mouracs 1996 comes from the Domaine Mouracs. It owes its name, which means “wetland” in Gascon, to its particular location in the Ténarèze region. The cultivation of grapes on the small estate is part of history. Armagnacs like this 27-year-old single cask from L'Encantada become precious souvenirs.

In the limited Borderline product range, Darroze demonstrates the expertise it has gained over 50 years of ageing using eaux-de-vie that are refined in wine or spirits barrels. Although this procedure no longer allows this ‘Brandy Français’ to be bottled as Armagnac, it does reveal the region’s new potential. This is demonstrated by the Borderline Brandy Français – Chardonnay Finish with a finesse-rich profile in which citrus peel, grapes and peach meet vanilla, caraway and nuts.

In the limited Borderline range, Darroze demonstrates the maturation expertise gained over 50 years with brandies finished in wine or spirit casks. This approach no longer allows this "Brandy Français" to be bottled as Armagnac, but it reveals new potential in the region. For the Borderline Brandy Français Pinot Noir Finish, five-year-old Armagnac was finished in French red wine casks. They gave it unexpected aromas of kirsch, blackcurrants, toast and smoke.

Around forty estates from the heart of Bas-Armagnac contribute to the remarkable collection of the House of Darroze. The independent bottlers buy their spirits either via a mobile still, which traditionally makes its rounds after the harvest, or already aged in cask.
