In the limited Borderline product range, Darroze demonstrates the expertise it has gained over 50 years of ageing using eaux-de-vie that are refined in wine or spirits barrels. Although this procedure no longer allows this ‘Brandy Français’ to be bottled as Armagnac, it does reveal the region’s new potential.
This is demonstrated by the Borderline Brandy Français – Chardonnay Finish with a finesse-rich profile in which citrus peel, grapes and peach meet vanilla, caraway and nuts.

Francis Darroze and his son Marc roam the Gascony countryside in search of treasure. The objects of their search? Special Armagnacs. Around forty estates from the heart of the Bas-Armagnac region contribute to the Darroze's exceptional collection. The independent bottlers purchase their distillates either using a mobile distiller, which traditionally makes its rounds after the harvest, or already stored in barrels. These often rare, multi-generational barrels or eaux-de-vie from small producers are perfected in the house's own cellars.

In the limited Borderline range, Darroze demonstrates the maturation expertise gained over 50 years with brandies finished in wine or spirit casks. This approach no longer allows this "Brandy Français" to be bottled as Armagnac, but it reveals new potential in the region. For the Borderline Brandy Français Pinot Noir Finish, five-year-old Armagnac was finished in French red wine casks. They gave it unexpected aromas of kirsch, blackcurrants, toast and smoke.
