Highland Park 2014 Burgundy Old Friends - 54,6%

Product information "Highland Park 2014 Burgundy Old Friends - 54,6%"

Highland Park distilled this whisky from malted barley in May 2014; it matured in a 1st fill Burgundy wine barrique. In August 2026 The Old Friends had the single cask bottled in Scotland. The yield is 306 bottles at 54,6 % vol.

On the nose, ripe red fruit and honey combine with orange zest, light vanilla and floral accents, accompanied by mild oak spice and subtle heather smoke. On the palate, sweet, malty depth meets pepper and tannins, complemented by red fruit, dried fruit and a restrained citrus note. The long finish starts fruity and sweet and becomes increasingly dry, with oak spice, pepper and gentle smoke.

The cream label with black lettering and an illustration of Aladdin and the genie adds a narrative touch: two companions, bound by wishes and adventure. The whisky was bottled non-chill-filtered and with no added colouring. If you enjoy powerful, fruit-driven single malts with subtle smokiness, we recommend this bottling neat or with a few drops of water to open up the aroma.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Fine heather honey and soft vanilla combine with delicate notes of aromatic orange zest. A subtle undertone of smoke lends the bouquet elegant depth.

Palate: Distinctive oak spice and lively pepper define the powerful body. A fine tannic structure shapes a dry yet complex mouthfeel.

Finish: The finish is long-lasting, with prominent oak notes and spicy pepper. A gentle hint of smoke accompanies the structured, dry close.

Founded in 1798, the Highland Park distillery in Kirkwall on the Orkney Islands is Scotland's northernmost distillery. Thanks to its unique location—and specifically the Orkney peat, which differs significantly from Islay peat—the whisky possesses a distinctive flavor profile. One of its signature notes is the oft-cited "heather-honey sweetness." The water is drawn from a lower-lying source, Cattie Maggie's Quarry.
