Islay

The Hebridean island of Islay is the epitome of Scotch whisky for many whiskey lovers around the world. From here come the smoky, peaty and phenolic whiskys that cannot deny their origin. Since peat was the only available fuel in the past centuries, it was of course also used for whisky production. The fact that some of the warehouses are located directly on the sea, due to the geographical conditions, is another important factor for the aroma of Islay whiskys.

This bottling joins a series of exceptional whiskies matured in unique casks. Ardbeg 19 years "Traigh Bhan" Batch 5 - 46,2%

The name Ardbeg means as much as 'little hill'. It is located at the southern coast of the whisky island Islay between Port Ellen and Kildalton. The location already has been popular for illegal distilleries. After a history with ups and downs including temporary close-downs the distillery was inherited by Glenmorangie PLC in 1997, which were themselves bought by Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy in 2004. Today it is one of the most famous distilleries in Scotland, known for its smokey, peaty and salty bottlings with strong note of phenol. Two bottlings are named like the lakes the water of the distillery comes from: Loch Arinambeast and Loch Uigeadail. In 2015 Ardbeg celebrated its bicentenary.

Ardbeg Smokiverse - 48,3%

“Experimentally produced using high-gravity mashing, this single malt takes us on a journey into new, undiscovered flavor realms. High-gravity mashing means less water and more malted barley in the mash starter. This higher original gravity results in fruitier and more intense aromas of cane sugar, ripe barley, and toasted sourdough bread. The whole thing culminates in flavors of tropical fruits and sweet peat. In short, every drop of wort has been squeezed out of this Ardbeg.”

Ardbeg Spectacular - 46%, Single Malt from Islay, Scotland
Ardbeg Spectacular - 46%

"For the first time in Ardbeg's history, this whisky was matured in coveted port casks. The influence of these rare port casks is naturally darker and undeniable. Rich dark chocolate rolls across the palate, while mint and more mint balance along a high wire of flavour. Notes of candied fruit mingle with the seductive hint of incense. Powerful peat and nutty almonds give way to sweet pear crumble and salted caramel. A feast for the senses: a whisky not to be missed!"

The site of the present distillery was already popular with illicit distillers. After a very eventful history with periodic closures, Ardbeg was taken over in 1997 by Glenmorangie PLC, which was in turn bought by Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy in 2004. It is now one of the most famous distilleries in Scotland, known for its smoky, peaty and salty bottlings with strong phenolic notes. The distillery's water comes from Loch Arinambeast and Loch Uigeadail, after which two bottlings are also named. In 2015 Ardbeg celebrated its 200th birthday.
