Highlands
The Highlands whisky region includes the area north of an imaginary line between Edinburgh and Glasgow. It includes the Speyside sub-region, the area around the world's most famous salmon river, the River Spey, which is home to around 30 distilleries in a relatively small area. Highland single malt whiskeys are generally mild and fruity. However, there are now numerous exceptions, with some distilleries deviating from their traditional methods for a few weeks a year and producing a heavily peated whisky (e.g. the Benriach distillery). The increasing experimentation with different types of casks also makes it difficult to determine the taste of an entire region.
This whisky comes from an unnamed Highland Distillery.

Usually the Malt Whisky has the name of the distillery it is produced in - but AnCnoc comes from the Knockdhu distillery (and the whisky used to have that name too). The name was changed in 1993 to prevent confusion with Knockando.

The distillery Ardmore is located south of Huntley in Kennethmont next to the railway that connects Aberdeen and Inverness. Sometimes it is stated that it lays in the Speyside and other times in the eastern Highlands. It was built in 1890 by the company Wm Teacher and Sons. Since 1978 Ardmore owns eight stills. Compared to other distilleries the history of this one was without any troubles. It was property of the founders for a long time, since 2005 it belongs to Jim Beam.
