Ardmore 1978 Bourbon Hogshead #8 Milroys - 47,8%

Product information "Ardmore 1978 Bourbon Hogshead #8 Milroys - 47,8%"

The Ardmore distillery in the Scottish Highlands is a name familiar above all to lovers of blends. Its smoky, spicy single malt with its characteristically waxy profile usually stays behind the scenes, which makes the chance to enjoy it on its own all the rarer. This 1978 vintage, bottled by Milroys, is an exception. The London institution, founded in 1964 by the brothers Jack and Wallace Milroy, has always stood for careful cask selection and a flair for the extraordinary. The clear bottle with its simple black label and elegant Milroys lettering underlines the exclusive character of this bottling. Non-chill-filtered and with no added colouring at 47,8 % vol.: the whisky reaches your glass just as it left the cask.

In the glass the whisky shows a rich golden ochre, a hue that bears witness to almost half a century of maturation in American oak. The nose reveals an unusually herbal profile, accompanied by a subtle smokiness. The palate unfolds a spicy, complex texture in which time is reflected in layers of wood, spice and a restrained sweetness. The finish is long and resonant, marked by the characteristic balance between smoke and spice.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Sage and the dry note of hay are accompanied by lively citrus aromas and a hint of wood smoke. The bouquet is elegantly interwoven and marked by a noble depth.

Palate: The palate unfolds a characteristic waxiness that harmoniously carries spicy sage and bright citrus notes. Subtle smoke and hints of dried hay give the profile a complex structure.

Finish: The finish is long, with delicate wood smoke and a fine herbal note gently fading away. A subtle citrus note remains as a lasting, elegant impression.
