Bunnahabhain Stiuireadair 200ml - 46,3%

Product information "Bunnahabhain Stiuireadair 200ml - 46,3%"

Since 1881, the Bunnahabhain distillery has defied the elements on the Sound of Islay, where the water of the Margadale river meets the sea. For Stiùireadair, the Master Blender specifically selected first fill and refill sherry casks from various warehouses right on the shore to emphasise the typical coastal character. The small 200ml bottle showcases honest craftsmanship: bottled at a robust 46.3% vol., it is consistently made without chill filtration or colouring to preserve the full texture of the malted barley and its natural oils.

In the glass, the whisky shimmers in a natural amber gold and immediately gives off maritime salty notes that combine with caramelised sugar and juicy raisins. On the palate, a creamy texture unfolds, marked by roasted hazelnuts and an intense honeyed sweetness, accompanied by wintry spices such as cinnamon and clove. The finish is long-lasting and complex, with dark chocolate and a hint of chilli meeting the fresh note of sherry-soaked orange peel.

Tasting Notes

Nose: A gentle sea breeze plays around dense notes of dried raisins and creamy caramel. A hint of vanilla lends the maritime note an inviting depth.

Palate: Full-bodied and creamy, the malt shows sweet honey and the aroma of roasted hazelnuts. Fine accents of cinnamon and clove are harmoniously complemented by a subtle salinity.

Finish: The finish is long-lasting, with fruity orange and the bitter-sweet traits of fine dark chocolate. A delicate trace of chilli rounds off this sophisticated conclusion.

Bunnahabhain 12-Year-Old Thompson Bros. Madeira - 46.1%

The Bunnahabhain Distillery is located on the Sound of Islay, in the northeastern corner of the island, directly across from the island of Jura—so remote that when it was built in 1881, a long, winding road first had to be constructed down to the sea. The water used to make whiskey—which is relatively low in peat for Islay—comes from an underground spring, the Margadale River. Until 2003, it was owned by the descendants of the founders, Highland Distillers. The current owner is Burn Stewart Distillers.
