Bunnahabhain 2002 - North Star - 51,2%

Product information "Bunnahabhain 2002 - North Star - 51,2%"

A mature Bunnahabhain that embodies exactly what makes this distillery so special: depth, creaminess and a wonderfully playful sweetness.
After 23 years in a refill hogshead, it shows an impressive balance of ripe fruit aromas, soft spices and that typical, almost nostalgic Bunnahabhain gentleness.

Tasting Notes

Nose:
A mix of caramelised citrus fruit and a charming, slightly plasticky note: Play Doh, but in the good, warm, familiar-from-childhood way. A scent that instantly makes you curious.

Palate:
This is where it gets cosy and rich: pumpkin pie spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, clove) meet thick vanilla custard. Full-bodied, soft and with a wonderfully rounded texture.

Finish:
The creaminess remains: marzipan, hazelnut and a sweet, nutty close that lingers for a long time. Simply delicious.

The Bunnahabhain Distillery is located on the Sound of Islay, in the northeastern corner of the island, directly across from the island of Jura—so remote that when it was built in 1881, a long, winding road first had to be constructed down to the sea. The water used to make whiskey—which is relatively low in peat for Islay—comes from an underground spring, the Margadale River. Until 2003, it was owned by the descendants of the founders, Highland Distillers. The current owner is Burn Stewart Distillers.
