Dhumat 2008 Barolo Scotch Universe - 54,9%
What begins as pure malted barley in the Scottish Highlands goes through a process here in which patience is the most important ingredient. Over seventeen years, in the stillness of the warehouse, this single malt has undergone a metamorphosis that lifts it far beyond its original profile and blurs the boundaries between the Scottish art of distilling and Italian winemaking culture.
The 1st Fill Barolo barrique shapes this 17-year-old malt with dense berry notes. Discover its fascinating, wine-led complexity.

Product information "Dhumat 2008 Barolo Scotch Universe - 54,9%"
The Tamdhu distillery provided the foundation for this exceptional bottling from the independent curator Scotch Universe. Distilled in October 2008, the whisky spent its entire maturation in a 1st Fill Barolo barrique. This cask, which previously held the prestigious "king of wines" from Piedmont, gives the spirit not only its deep, russet colour but also a structural complexity that developed through its long interaction with the wood and the wine residues.
On the nose, a full bouquet of ripe red berries and dark dried fruit unfolds, underpinned by a fine tobacco note and sweet vanilla. On the palate, the single malt is powerful and vinous, with the typical sweetness of toffee meeting the distinctive dry tannins of the Barolo cask. The finish is remarkably long and dominated by toasted oak, dark cocoa and a lingering, spicy dryness.
At a cask strength of 54.9% vol., "DHUMAT" comes unadorned, non-chill-filtered and in its natural colour. It is aimed at connoisseurs who appreciate the interplay of robust Highland character and intense wine aromas. Whether enjoyed neat or carefully opened up with a few drops of water, this 17-year-old whisky offers a profound experience for moments when you are looking for something special.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Ripe berry notes and a fine hint of sherry meet a spicy tobacco note. Gentle vanilla and warm oak lend the bouquet an appealing depth.
Palate: Robust tannins from the Barolo cask combine with sweet toffee and concentrated dark berry fruit. A nuance of vanilla and distinctive oak spice create a multi-layered and expressive mouthfeel.
Finish: The finish is long-lasting, with bitter cocoa notes and a pronounced oak structure. A subtle echo of dried berries remains on the palate.
