Since its founding in 1826 by James Allardice, the GlenDronach distillery in the Valley of Forgue has been dedicated to perfecting cask-matured spirits. This single malt matured for a full 18 years exclusively in the finest Oloroso sherry casks made of Spanish oak. It is bottled at 46,0 % vol., consistently non-chill-filtered and with no added colouring, so the impressive antique bronze colour and oily texture of the spirit are fully preserved.
The nose reveals deep aromas of raisin fudge and dark muscovado sugar, accompanied by complex notes of morello cherries and fruit compote. On the palate the whisky is dark and seductive: flavours of stewed fruit and allspice merge with the characteristic tones of toasted walnut bread and chocolate orange. The finish is exceptionally long and full-bodied, marked by a velvety sweetness of dark syrup, dates and a hint of maple.
This 18 year old Highland malt is a benchmark for anyone seeking an intense balance of fruit and spice. It is best enjoyed neat at room temperature, so you can explore the many layers of its 18 years of maturation at leisure.
