Nikka Yoichi Single Malt 90th Anniversary - 45%

Product information "Nikka Yoichi Single Malt 90th Anniversary - 45%"

Some masterpieces require time and patience before they can shine in all their glory. With the Nikka Yoichi Single Malt 90th Anniversary, we celebrate not only nine decades of Japanese distilling craftsmanship, but also the vision of a man who brought the traditions of Scotland to the far north of Japan. This spirit is a liquid tribute to the enduring spirit and rugged beauty of Hokkaido.

In 1934, Masataka Taketsuru founded the Yoichi Distillery on the island of Hokkaido, as the climate and proximity to the coast strongly reminded him of his apprenticeship in the Scottish Highlands. To this day, the distillery preserves its artisanal heritage through the rare practice of directly firing the stills with coal, which gives the distillate a depth and structure all its own. During the aging process in the warehouses, the whiskey absorbs the salty sea air, which significantly shapes the character of this single malt.

This single malt pours into the glass with a vibrant golden hue and immediately releases a complex bouquet. The nose is enveloped by a soft veil of peat, which leaves room for candied citrus, nutmeg, and floral notes of cloves. On the palate, the Yoichi is powerful yet balanced: here, flavors of melon and kiwi meet the tart sweetness of dark chocolate and roasted nuts. The long-lasting finish fades away silkily with hints of pear and a subtle, maritime saltiness.
