Nikka from the Barrel GP - 51.4%
Masataka Teketsuru, founder of the Nikka Distillery and the forefather of Japanese whiskey, was born in 1894 into a family that had been successfully producing sake since 1733. In 1918, his first employer sent him to Scotland so he could learn production techniques, distillation processes, and gain experience in whiskey production.
A few years later, he returned to Osaka, built Japan’s first whiskey distillery, and thus became the pioneer of the Japanese whiskey industry, which is now successful worldwide. In 1934, he decided to strike out on his own and search for the ideal location to produce the perfect Japanese whiskey.

Product information "Nikka from the Barrel GP - 51.4%"
The history of this whiskey is closely linked to Masataka Taketsuru, who learned the art of distillation in Scotland and brought it to Japan. This blend consists of over 100 different batches of malt and grain whiskies produced at the Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries. After blending, the distillate undergoes a “double-matured” process, aging in former bourbon and sherry casks before being bottled at a robust 51.4% ABV to preserve its full aromatic depth.
On the nose, this amber-colored whiskey is wonderfully balanced, with floral notes, fresh orange, and a subtle oakiness, accompanied by a delicate hint of peat smoke. On the palate, it unfolds with a full-bodied, almost oily texture, characterized by sweet toffee, caramel, and a hint of vanilla. The finish is remarkably long and complex, with the spicy wood notes blending harmoniously with the fruitiness.
