The Caledonian Distillery, once a mainstay in Edinburgh, is now one of the lost icons of the Scottish whiskey landscape. This single grain was distilled on April 10, 1976, and matured for a full 50 years in a single hogshead before being selected by the renowned independent bottler Signatory Vintage for Kirsch Import’s 50th anniversary. With a strictly limited run of just 213 bottles and bottled at natural cask strength of 52.6% ABV, the grain spirit’s original character remains vibrant and robust despite its exceptionally long maturation period.
On the nose, the distillate reveals a complex interplay of ripe vanilla, sweet caramel, and a characteristic note of beeswax—often the hallmark of very old grain whiskies. On the palate, the whiskey is creamy and full-bodied, with flavors of toasted grain and delicate toffee blending with a subtle, woody depth resulting from its long aging. The finish is remarkably long-lasting and dry, characterized by fine oak and a delicate herbal note that harmoniously rounds out the sensory experience.
