Octomore 2013 Single Cask - 60,6%

Octomore 17.2Octomore 17.2 is the second step in the Seventeen Series and relies on a double wood maturation. The intense smokiness of the malt meets fruity and spicy notes from the cask maturation: strawberry, blackberry and blackcurrant combine with steadily building peat smoke. Pepper and earthy aromas are brightened by lemon zest and lime oil. The influence of port intensifies the fruit and spice without pushing the barley and peat into the background. The result is a rich, lively and harmoniously composed Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

The Octomore distillery was founded in 1816 by George Montgomery in Port Charlotte on the Isle of Islay. In 1852 the distillery was taken over by Thomas Pattison and closed in the same year. In 2008 Bruichladdich had plans to reopen Octomore, but these were not realised. Since 2008, however, Bruichladdich has been bottling a heavily peated single malt under the name "Octomore".

Octomore 17.3Octomore 17.3 puts barley, provenance and a sense of place at the centre. This spirit-led bottling combines powerful peat with elegance and nuance. Sweet first fill oak shows itself in salted caramel, smoked apple and toasted coconut. Praline and vanilla cream join in. Deeply charred peat settles over the palate as dry, ashy smoke, while citrus oils and saltiness provide clarity. Over time, spirit, cask and grain come together in a dram that is both powerful and balanced. ‘A mysterious work of art born of the perfect symbiosis of nature, man and time. Whatever transpired over the many years in the darkness of the warehouse, within hand-selected casks … it will likely remain a secret forever.’ The Black Art Sapero was allowed to mature for 19 years in a secret combination of casks; it was bottled in 2025 at 47.8%.

The distillery Bruichladdich, which means as much as 'corner of the beach' is the most essential distillery generally. It was built 1881 by the Harley Brothers. After the distillery was shut down for a period of time there was proclaimed on the 20th of December 2000 that it would be re-opened again. Already in May 2001 there came the first newmake out of the stills. The success of the distillery is closely connected with the activities of one of the most significant men in the whisky industry whose name is Jim McEwan. In 2012 the distillery once again changed its owner for 58 Million pounds and is now owned by Remy Cointreau.

This bottling is a 21-year-old Bruichladdich from bourbon cask number 1352. The whisky matured from 2003 to 2025 and was bottled as a private cask at an alcohol strength of 58,1%.

After the distillery had been closed for some time, it was announced on 20.12.2000 that it would soon be working again. The first new make flowed from the stills as early as May 2001. Bruichladdich's success is closely linked to the work of one of the most important men in the Scottish whisky scene, Jim McEwan. In 2012 the distillery changed hands again for 58 million pounds. The current owner is Remy Cointreau.
