Kilkerran
The Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown was originally founded in 1872 and closed in 1925 as a result of the recession after the First World War. In 2000 the owners of the Springbank distillery founded Mitchell’s Glengyle Ltd. The old distillery was completely refurbished and fitted with new equipment. The stills came from the Ben Wyvis distillery. Glengyle has been producing whisky again since 2004 and was the first distillery to open in Campbeltown in 125 years. As the name “Glengyle” may not be used for the whisky it produces, it is bottled under the name Kilkerran, derived from “Ceann Loch Cille Chiarain”, the Gaelic name of the first settlement on the Kintyre peninsula.
The Kilkerran 12 year old is the standard bottling from the Glengyle Distillery. It is matured 70% in bourbon casks and 30% in sherry casks.
