Allt-á-Bhainne
The distillery was built in 1975 by Chivas Brothers and has had a real back-and-forth history. Doubled in size in 1989, it was sold to Pernod Ricard in December 2001 and mothballed in October 2022. Production has been running again since 27.05.2005. The distillery lies in Speyside on the southern side of Ben Rinnes, south-west of Dufftown. It has 2 stills but is nevertheless designed for a large capacity of up to 5 million litres of alcohol a year; actual production is believed to be just under 4 million litres. The distillery's first official bottling has only been available since 2018. By far the largest share goes into Pernod Ricard's brands (= Chivas Regal). Allt-a-Bhainne was one of the first Speyside distilleries to make whisky with lightly peated barley, which was extremely unusual for Speyside at the time it was founded.
