Aberfeldy
Aberfeldy distillery was founded in 1896 by the whisky merchants John Dewar & Sons and has been part of the Bacardi empire since 1998. It lies on the River Tay on the edge of the little town of the same name and belongs to the southern Highlands region. The water for production comes from the "Pitilie Burn" spring. Malt from Aberfeldy has always been used for Dewar's blends, especially White Label. With its two wash stills and two spirit stills, the distillery can produce around 2,700,000 litres of pure alcohol a year.
The distillery's basic style can be described as soft and rounded with an accompanying sweetness. Mostly ex-American bourbon barrels are used. The upward-sloping lyne arms of the stills also help to filter out sharper, more intense aromas during distillation. Official Aberfeldy bottlings are mostly released chill-filtered and with added colouring.
The 12 year old Aberfeldy is characterised by a great deapness, having flavours of honey and caramel. Those are followed by spices and orange peels. Summarized: A soft and harmonic Single Malt.
