After the distillery had been closed for some time, it was announced on December 20, 2000, that it would soon resume operations. As early as May 2001, the first newmake flowed from the stills. Bruichladdich's success is closely linked to the work of one of the most influential figures in the Scottish whiskey scene—Jim McEwan. In 2012, the distillery changed hands again for 58 million pounds. The current owner is Remy Cointreau.
