Linkwood 2011 Ribera de Duero #450 Old Friends - 56,1%

Product information "Linkwood 2011 Ribera de Duero #450 Old Friends - 56,1%"

Distilled in February 2011 at the long-established Linkwood Distillery, this single malt spent its entire 15-year maturation in a 1st fill Ribera del Duero barrique. This first-fill red wine cask from one of Spain's most renowned wine regions has a decisive influence on the whisky, giving it its deep amber hue. Independent bottler “The Old Friends” dedicates this edition to the theme “King & Counsellor”, reflected in the nostalgic label design illustrating King Arthur and Merlin. It was bottled in August 2026 as an exclusive single cask in a limited edition of just 430 bottles.

The bouquet reveals an intense mélange of ripe plums, juicy cherries and a fine vanilla note, underpinned by wintry cinnamon. On the palate, the power of 56.1% vol. shows itself in a full-bodied texture that carries notes of dark chocolate, raisins and malty sweetness. The structure of the Ribera del Duero wine is clearly noticeable, lending the dram a noble dryness and a deep, almost velvety complexity. The finish is marked by cocoa and a long-lasting, spicy oak note.

This Linkwood is a recommendation for connoisseurs who appreciate the interplay of powerful wine cask notes and mature spirit. Given the high cask strength, it is worth experimenting with a few drops of water to bring out the fruity nuances of the malted barley even further. It is the ideal companion for a special evening when you take your time to follow the aromatic development in the glass. An honest whisky with no added colouring and non-chill-filtered, putting the craft of cask selection centre stage.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Inviting notes of ripe cherries and dark plums blend with the delicate sweetness of vanilla and a hint of cinnamon.

Palate: Full-bodied malt combines with juicy cherries and raisins to form a complex profile, given depth by dark chocolate and the dry nuances of the red wine cask.

Finish: The finish is long-lasting, with intense cocoa and a distinctive oak spice that skilfully rounds off the multi-layered character.
