The distillery—whose name means "hillside" or "garden on the slope"—is located a few miles north of Dunrobin Castle near the village of Brora, placing it in the Northern Highlands region. It was built in 1967 right next to another distillery; the latter was subsequently renamed "Brora" after both had operated under the same name for a time. The water for Clynelish comes from the Clynemilton Burn.

It smells fragrant, fruity, slightly smoky, and with a hint of the sea. It tastes spicy, creamy, fruity, and again delicately smoky. And it absolutely cannot tolerate being diluted with water. One of those malts where you can easily forget to drink it because you’re so busy enjoying the aroma.
