The name Balvenie is infered by the castle Balvenie which is located close by and means as much as 'city of luck'. It is one of many distilleries of the village Dufftown, the secret 'capital of whisky' in the Speyside and is also named as 'little sister' of Glenfiddich. The distillery was built in 1892 nearly by one's own hands by William Grant & Sons out of the ruins of the guesthouse. Today the distillery owns more than eight stills and since 1990 there is another distillery on the compound named Kininvie. The water that is used has its origin in the spring Robbie Dubh, the same spring Glenfiddich uses its water from.

The Balvenie 12 Years Home Malted is a tribute to the oldest bottling the distillery has ever released, created by Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie. The whisky first matured in American oak and was then finished in former European oak sherry casks. The barley used comes entirely from the distillery's own maltings, one of the few in Scotland that still malts its own barley. The result is a harmonious, elegant interpretation of the classic Balvenie style, with warm biscuit aromas and honey-sweet toffee on the nose, candied ginger and raisins on the palate and a full-bodied, velvety-smooth finish.

The Balvenie 14 Year Old Week of Peat contains whisky that is only produced for one week a year. When the distillery is closed for cleaning and maintenance, heavily peated barley malt is distilled beforehand. The first and second run is stored in additional tanks and reused the following year, so each vintage is linked together. The peat content in the malt is around 30 ppm.

The 21-year-old Balvenie Port Wood is finished in port casks and bottled at 40%. Tasting Notes Aroma: Honeyed sweetness and ripe fruit along with a little smoke. Behind them, vanilla and a dry nutty aroma. Taste: Creamy and sweet malt on the tongue, followed by the taste of honey, fruit and oak spice. Finish: Long and smooth, nuts and spice linger in the memory.

The Balvenie 25 years is a real masterpiece. Matured in American and European oak barrels, the Balvenie convinces with a combination of sweet and creamy notes. The initial strong vanilla and oak aromas slowly dissolve as you enjoy it and merge into tones of roasted marshmallows, fresh fruit terrine and apple pie interspersed with cinnamon.

Balvenie Burnhead Wood is made entirely from local ingredients grown in Dufftown. This Balvenie has a delicate fruity expression, which is partly due to heather from the Balvenie estate. The sweetness of the whiskey is based on an underlying, oaky dryness. Finishes: oaky & dried flowers. Generally long lasting.
