The distillery lays at the bottom of the Ben Nevis, the highest mountain of Scotland, located at the Western Highlands next to Fort William. It was built 1825 by John McDonald, a descendant of the Lord of the Isles. Between 1984 and 1990 the production was stopped, after Nikka took over the company the production continued one year later. The water for Ben Nevis comes from the Allt A Mhullin Burn.

The distillery of the same name is located at the foot of Scotland's highest mountain, Ben Nevis, in the western Highlands near Fort William. With the Ben Nevis 2012/2023, Murray McDavid has succeeded in creating a rare, outstanding example of the highly prized single malt. Sweet malt, notes of cinnamon buns, floral hints and baking spices characterise this single cask bottling. It was matured for five years in a red wine barrique from the legendary Château Lafite vineyard in Bordeaux.

Ben Nevis Coire Leis matures exclusively in first fill bourbon casks and is a wonderful single malt for beginners. Oily and creamy, with pear, apricot, caramel and oak spice, it shows its characteristic side. And it does so entirely without chill filtration or colouring.
