Built in 1896/97 by William Grant in Knockando near Aberlour in Speyside, Tamdhu whisky has only been available as a single malt since 1976. Until then, it was produced solely for use in blends. The distillery still operates its own maltings today, which covers its entire requirement.

“Here we present an exceptional Speyside single cask: matured for 20 years in sherry puncheon #3102, bottled at a powerful 53.2% ABV and limited to just 291 bottles. Founded in 1897 on the River Spey, the Tamdhu Distillery stands like hardly any other distillery for whisky matured entirely in sherry casks. While many whiskies use sherry casks only for a final finish, full sherry cask maturation has always been part of Tamdhu's identity. This Tamdhu was distilled in 2006, before the distillery's temporary closure in 2010, making it a rare snapshot of the distillery's earlier production era. The whisky spent all 20 years in a single sherry puncheon. This long, uninterrupted maturation gave it an intense sherry sweetness and layered aromas of red berries, marzipan, Christmas baking and nougat. Powerful and refined, with delicate herbs and a smooth wood influence providing both mature depth and elegant balance. No sherry finish added afterwards, but 20 years of full maturation in a single sherry cask, and only 291 bottles from puncheon #3102.”
